What do the different colors of roses represent?
I know red roses are supposed to symbolize Love, but what are the other colors supposed to represent?

White……………Innocence,
purity, spirituality
Yellow…………..Friendship, joy, get well
Pale Pink………. Gentleness and admiration, and can also be used as an expression of sympathy.
Dark Pink………..Gratitude and appreciation, and are a traditional way to send a message of thanks.
Lavender…………Enchantment and love at first sight.
Orange………….Desire, enthusiasm and passion.

“The nuances of the language are now mostly forgotten, but red roses still imply passionate, romantic love and pink roses a lesser affection; white roses suggest virtue and chastity and yellow roses still stand for friendship or devotion.”
The Victorian Language of Flowers (second link below) reprints a XIXth century compilation of meanings. Note that there is meaning in the color but also the type of rose (although I am fairly sure a Victorian would be puzzled by the more modern varieties) and the arrangement used.
