What’s the best way to keep roses fresh overnight without being in water or fridge?

I’m traveling 12 hours by bus overnight and would like to be able to sleep some if possible. Grandma will be picking me up and I want to have the roses with me when I meet up with her. I can take a vase if I have to, but would prefer a different method, so that I don’t have to hold it up for 12 hours.

Does the bus make any stops? Maybe you could buy the roses at the closest stop to your final destination and you won’t have to worry about keeping them fresh for 12 hours.

Saturate a few paper towels with water and put them in a gallon-size zip-loc bag. Put the rose stems in the zip-loc bag and zip it shut as much as possible. You can add some water halfway through your trip, but it won’t spill because of the paper towels.

    Bon Voyage!
